The portion of your heating and cooling system that forces air through your home’s ductwork.
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It's a measurement of an air conditioner's cooling capacity to power input, or simply, the ratio of cooling produced (in BTUs) divided by the amount of electricity used (in watts). The higher the SEER rating means the greater the unit's efficiency.
The motor/pump that drives the air conditioning unit. It is responsible for pumping refrigerant throughout the system.
HVAC is an acronym for “heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.”
It may come as a surprise that air conditioners dont technically make your home cooler; they actually remove the hot air and direct it outside. This hot air is pushed across a refrigerant coil on the indoor unit and then is sent to the outdoor unit where it is released. Your air conditioner moves as much hot air outside as is necessary to reach the temperature you have set on your thermostat.
A unit that handles both heating and cooling. In some climates, a heat pump may handle your heating and cooling needs more efficiently than a furnace and air conditioner.
Refers to an air conditioner or heat pump that is combined with indoor components, such as an evaporator coil inside and a condenser coil outside your home.
To keep your HVAC system running in tip-top shape, we recommend a maintenance appointment twice a year (once for heat, once for air conditioning). This way, an Oliver technician can check your filters, coils, wiring, housing, motor, and more to make sure you’re getting the most out of your system.
To answer that, you’ll need an appointment with one of our HVAC service experts here at Gainey's Heating & Cooling. We’ll come to your home and evaluate its size, heating and cooling needs, environment, and the work we’ll need to do. Then, we can recommend the best system for you and install it quickly.
If your HVAC system requires constant repairs, is 15 years or older, or can’t heat or cool your home properly, we recommend you replace it. When an HVAC system ages, it doesn’t operate as efficiently and could actually end up costing you more money than it should.
This varies depending on the amount of people living in your home, the number of pets, the size of your home, etc. For optimum efficiency and filtration, we recommend that you replace your disposable air filters at least once a month. If you have washable filters, they should be cleaned once a month.
A few quick tips:
Regular filter replacement helps your heating and cooling system operate at peak levels and improves indoor air quality. It is important to change filters regularly to ensure proper air flow and to keep your home free from dust, allergens and germs. Depending on the type of filter you have, you may require monthly filter replacements.
Your HVAC systems should be serviced before the start of each heating and cooling season. So, your air conditioner should have regular maintenance performed at the end of winter or beginning of spring, while your heat pump or furnace should have its regular maintenance performed at the end of summer or beginning of fall.
The short answer? So important! Your indoor air quality can be as much as 100 times worse than the outdoor air. That means pollutants, allergens, dust, and mildew can be circulating in your home affecting your family’s health and wellbeing. Improving and maintaining your indoor air quality is vitally important to your home and family.
